LIMITED RULES

Gulf Coast Modified Midget Association will hereafter be
referred to as GCMMA. The rules set forth herein are designed to provide for the
orderly conduct of racing events. These rules shall govern the conditions of all
events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to
have complied with these rules. These rules are intended as a guide for the
conduct of the event and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a
participant, spectator or official. The referee shall be empowered to permit
reasonable deviation from any specification that in his opinion does not alter
the acceptable requirements. Any deviation of these rules is left to the
discretion of the officials. Their decision is final. The current GCMMA Board of
Directors is the final authority.
GENERAL RULES
1. GCMMA Race Rules shall apply at
all GCMMA sanctioned events.
2. Track officials shall have
responsibility for rules and regulation enforcement at GCMMA sanctioned events.
At the discretion of track officials, any competitor may be disqualified for
rule violations or hazardous equipment or hazardous actions.
3. All GCMMA vehicles are subject to
be inspected at any time.
4. Approval of a GCMMA vehicle by
the inspector shall mean only that the vehicle is approved for participation in
a competitive event and shall not be construed in any way to mean the inspected
GCMMA vehicle is guaranteed mechanically sound. Be it further declared that the
inspector shall not be liable, nor shall the Sanctioning Body, for any
mechanical failure, nor for any losses or injuries resulting from same.
5. Any unsportsmanlike conduct by
drivers, owners and/or pit crews shall be grounds for disqualification and/or
punitive action by the Sanctioning Body. Drivers are responsible for the conduct
and actions of their pit crews.
6. Absolutely NO alcoholic
beverages will be consumed by drivers and/or pit crews prior to, or while
competing, in a GCMMA Sanctioned event. Use, distribution, or sale of illegal
drugs at any time shall be cause for immediate indefinite suspension.
SPECIFIC RULES
1. Age. Drivers age 12 and up may
compete in the Limited Class.
2. Roll cage. Roll cages shall be at
least 1 inch .062 wall thickness, or 1 1/8 inch .065 wall thickness, or 1 1/4
inch .065 wall thickness. Roll cage shall be made of chromoly steel or
equivalent material. The front section of the cage shall be no further back than
the steering wheel. Roll cage shall have sufficient fore and aft bracing and
strength to support the weight of the car & driver in case of an upset. Cage
shall have gussets at the intersecting bars to the uprights. Bends must have at
least 3 inch radius. No square or pointed corners allowed. Roll cage must be a
minimum of 3 inches above the driver’s helmet. It is mandatory to install a
cross brace behind the seat to support the shoulder harness.
3. Bumpers And Nerfs. Car must have
bumper extending beyond the front and rear tires. Nothing may extend beyond a
tangent line from the outside edge of the tires to the bumpers. Nothing may
extend beyond the outside edge or the tires or wheels, whichever is the widest.
No sharp corners or design as to hook or damage. All cars must be equipped with
nerfing bars. Nerfing bars must extend to inside edge of tires, but not beyond
the outside of tire.
4. Safety. Seat belts must be
securely attached to the car and used at all times. Metal to metal latches only.
5 point seat belts, shoulder harness and sub strap are required. Belt dates must
not be over three years old. (Example: Oct 99 may be used in 2000, 2001 and
2002.) Arm restraints are mandatory and must be adequately adjusted to keep the
drivers hands below the top of the roll cage. Helmets must be full head coverage
competition type and one of the three latest SNELL approvals. All drivers will
wear a name brand flame-retardant uniform. Neck braces or cage nets are
mandatory. SFI gloves are mandatory for safety.
5. Electric's and Electronics. On
and off switches must be on dash, top of the cowl or on steering wheel. On/off
switch must be connected and functional. No radio communication is allowed with
the car or the driver.
6. Battery. All wet cell batteries
mounted in the cockpit must be covered and vented outside the cockpit area.
7. Weight. 4-cylinder 600cc powered
cars, minimum car and driver weight 750 lbs.
8. Suspension. Tread; Maximum 50
inches. Wheelbase; Maximum 70 inches. Minimum 50 inches, center of front
axle to center of rear axle. Steering; Front wheels must be connected by
a solid or tubular tie rod. Rear wheel drive only. All suspension bolts except
wheel nuts must be secured by some type of locking device.
9. Shocks. Any shock absorber legal,
except no cockpit adjustable shocks on Limited Cars.
10. Brakes. Brakes will be of
sufficient strength so as to slide the wheels while the car is in motion.
11. Tires And Wheels. All cars;
Wheel will not exceed 14 inch width; tires may not exceed 22 1/2 inches in
height. Wheels must be held on with 4 or more standard lug nuts or knock-off
hubs. Right rear tire must be a minimum 50 durometer compound. Right rear tire
may be grooved or siped. Tire durometer check should be done at least 15 minutes
after the races to allow for cool down. NO WHEEL SENSORS they must be
disconnected.
12. Bodies. All cars must have
complete bodies. Tail sections must be in place for time trials and all races.
There must be a metal firewall between driver and engine, made of 24 gauge steel
or .0625" aluminum. Body of car must be made of aluminum, metal, fiberglass or
high impact plastic. No rear view mirrors. The only part of the car allowed to
be dismantled for driver to enter or exit is a quick release steering wheel hub.
The minimum opening on the right side of the car will be 14” from the top of the
roll cage to the top of the mud guard or sissy bar and 16” minimum from the
front down tube to the back. All mechanically operated devices must be mounted
below the drivers shoulders for safety. No mechanical, electrical or hydraulic
adjustments will be allowed in the cockpit area on Limited Cars. All fuel tanks
must be equipped with a one-way check valve designed to prevent the spillage of
fuel from the fuel tank vent in the event of a rollover.
13. Transmission. Four cylinder
motors must have transmission with all stock gears in working order. Any car
equipped with a shifting mechanism must have this device mounted in the drivers
compartment. Shift levers may be mounted outside the driver’s compartment on
opposite side of car from the chain drive. Chain guards will be made of .090
inch thick aluminum or equivalent and will run on top of chain from the front of
the front sprocket to the center of the rear axle. Driver must not be able to
touch the chain or sprockets while sitting in the cockpit.
14. Wings. No top or nose wings are
allowed.
15. Numbers. All cars must have
legible numbers painted in contrasting colors on both sides of car and the nose.
Minimum height of numbers is 8" on the nose, 10" on each side of the tail.
Numbers must be separated from advertising so they will be readable.
16. License. All drivers, when
signing in for any GCMMA race, must show their current GCMMA membership card or
receipt to the Registration Steward, who will hold their card or receipt until
the Referee releases them at the conclusion of race event.
17. Ballast. Any material used for
ballast must be firmly attached as a part of the car's structure. No liquid or
loose ballast such as water, fuel, oil, sand bags, rocks, log chains etc.
allowed.
18. Engine Rules. 600 cc engines may
be bored 1mm over stock. Stock engines as the motor was run on the motorcycle
with the charging unit. Valve jobs will be allowed as long as they are in
manufacturers tolerances. Stock valves must be retained. No engine work (no
ported heads, no lightened cranks, cams may NOT be degreed, no lightened
pistons, maximum head milling .010 (cleanup only)). Stock pistons only. Any air
cleaner will be allowed. Any exhaust will be allowed. Crank case ventilation to
atmospheric pressure only allowed. Rods, pistons, cams etc. must be stock parts
as used on the motorcycle the motor came from. Carburetors must be the same make
and model as the motor, i.e. Honda F2 carbs on a Honda F2 Motor and Honda F3
carbs on a Honda F3 Motor etc. Carbs may have metering rods, jets and springs
changed to tune the fuel curve to match our cars requirements. Carburetor
engines may run on gas or alcohol. Stock black box without external
adjustments must be same engine make. Aftermarket timing advancers are illegal.
Internal charging systems components must remain in the motor. Fuel injected
motor completely stock as it came off the bike with pan modification, oil pick
up modification, any air box, stock appearing CDI box, aftermarket washable
replacement air filter and piggy back ignition. Fuel injected or carbureted
motors on M1 methanol only. Allow stock number of aftermarket injectors with
aftermarket fuel rail power commander and stand alone 02 sensors. Any sprocket
(520 or 530) will be allowed.
19. Engine Claiming Rules.
4-cyclinder 600cc cars only. There will be a $1500.00 "A" Main (motor only)
claim on the first three finishers by the 10th finisher forward. If your motor
is claimed, you will retain the complete exhaust system including the exhaust
nuts, the carburetors and air cleaners, the coils and spark plug wires, the CDI
(black box), the voltage regulator oil pickup and oil pan, and the wiring down
to where it plugs into the motor or into the connectors coming from the motor,
the shift lever, the chain drive sprocket & bolt, plus all of the plates, bolts
etc. required to mount the motor. The person claiming the motor gets the motor
with all covers, starter, charging system, carburetor boots, water neck, head
and valve cover intact. The person removing the motor will unplug all wiring and
unhook all hoses at the motor. Do not cut wiring or hoses. Any driver, owner or
crew who tries to damage the motor, car or parts of the opposite party while the
motor is being removed for a claim will be considered in violation of GCMMA and
will be subject to fines, suspension, or disqualification as deemed appropriate.
You need to remember that when you sign in at the races each night with a
Limited Class 600cc four cylinder motor, you are agreeing to have your motor
claimed. If you refuse a claim you will be disqualified for 1 Year.
If two people claim the same motor, the highest finisher of the two would get
the motor. When requesting a motor claim, the $1500 must be presented in cash or
certified check. Absolutely no personal or company checks will be
accepted for claiming purposes.
